Virginia Tech Football’s North Carolina Recruiting Presence Growing

When Dax Hollifield signed with Virginia Tech on Wednesday, it gave the Hokies six 2018 recruits from the state of North Carolina, including five of the top-25 recruits in the state, per the 247Sports.com NC rankings.

The Hokies have made recruiting the state of North Carolina a priority, as evidenced by their #NC2VT hashtag on social media, and the number and quality of the recruits from the Tar Heel state continue to go up. Here’s an infographic from @OX_VT on Twitter showing Virginia Tech’s increased recruiting presence in the state.

Number of signees from North Carolina:

  • 2015: 3
  • 2016: 2
  • 2017: 4
  • 2018: 6

Number of top-10 signees from North Carolina:

  • 2015: 0
  • 2016: 0
  • 2017: 2
  • 2018: 2

Average in-state ranking of signees from North Carolina:

  • 2015: 28.3
  • 2016: 24.5
  • 2017: 14.0
  • 2018: 17.2

Regardless of ranking, the Hokies have mined the state for some good talent in the last for years. From the 2015 class, Mook Reynolds has been a valuable contributor, Houshun Gaines appears to be hitting his stride and Adonis Alexander has a chance to start in 2018 and position himself for the NFL. From the 2016 class, former wide receiver Divine Deablo was impressive at free safety in 2017 before an injury cut his season short. More recent recruits show a lot of promise.

Look for the state of North Carolina to be a continued area of focus in the coming years for Virginia Tech.
