Virginia Tech vs. Alabama: A Statistical Comparison

We’ll have a thorough game preview soon for 8-seed Virginia Tech vs 9-seed Alabama, but in the meantime, here’s a statistical comparison of the Hokies vs. the Tide.

The table was done by @OX_VT on Twitter, and it shows the national ranking of each team in a number of statistical categories. Here’s a look.

Our hot takes:

  • This is a matchup of the Hokies’ offense versus the Crimson Tide’s defense, but the stats don’t show that Virginia Tech has improved defensively in the last month or so, as Buzz Williams has changed tactics.
  • Alabama’s free throw defense is outstanding.
  • That last bullet point was a joke, folks.
  • The Hokies have a much higher winning percentage in close games than the Tide, and this game could be a close one.

  1. REBOUNDING should be the difference against Alabama in what should be a very close game ???

  2. Don’t sleep on our defensive free throw % either, we are in top quarter. Perhaps we should be thanking the Cassell Guard?

  3. FT Defense? Okay, you got me. Good thing I read the next line before firing an e-mail.
