Virginia Tech men’s basketball picked up a big commitment — literally — early Tuesday afternoon when Gonzaga (Washington, D.C.) center Christian Gurdak verballed to Mike Young. He is the second commitment of the 2025 recruiting class, joining power forward Sin’Cere Jones of Portsmouth, Va.

Gurdak took official visits to Virginia Tech (June 7) and Notre Dame (June 23) before eventually selecting the Hokies. He is a highly-touted prospect and a consensus four-star recruit. He is ranked No. 98 nationally by 247Sports. ESPN doesn’t quite have him as a top 100 player, but he is a four-star prospect and the No. 4 player in D.C., and he’s been assigned an overall rating of 81. He’s also listed with scholarship offers from Penn State, Iowa and Maryland.

With Gurdak’s commitment, this marks the second year in a row that Young has gotten a commitment from a top-100 big man. Ryan Jones joined the program this summer and was ranked No. 79 by 247Sports, No. 70 by ESPN and No. 77 by Rivals.

With a power forward and a center committed for the 2025 class, Young and his staff will now turn their attention to guards and wings.
