Kickoff times for five Virginia Tech football games were announced on Thursday afternoon.

The Hokies will open the season in Nashville, Tenn., on Aug. 31 at Vanderbilt at noon ET on ESPN (11 a.m. CT). It’ll be their first time on the main ESPN channel for a Saturday game during the regular season since Nov. 14, 2020, vs. Miami. It’s the first meeting with the Commodores since Nov. 4, 1989. The last time the program was in Tennessee’s capital, it beat Alabama 38-7 in the 1998 Music City Bowl.

Tech will host Marshall the following Saturday (Sept. 7) at 4:30 p.m. ET on the CW with a chance to get revenge for last season’s loss in Huntington, W.Va. It’s a perfect 7-0 at home against the Thundering Herd. Tech’s most recent victory in the series came six years ago on Dec. 1, 2018, a 41-20 win that kept the bowl streak alive.

A Sept. 14 trip to Norfolk is on the docket for the Hokies. That game against Old Dominion will feature a 6 p.m. ET kickoff on ESPN+. They beat the Monarchs 36-17 in the 2023 season opener. However, both of their previous trips to ODU ended in defeats, including the first game of the Brent Pry era in 2022.

Kickoff times for weeknight games were announced, too. Virginia Tech will face Miami at 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPN on Friday, Sept. 27, in South Florida, the fifth week of the season. The Hokies will have the same time and television designation for their home game vs. Boston College on Thursday, Oct. 17, in Lane Stadium.

  1. There will be lots of hungover Hokies for a noon game in Nashville. It will also be hot. I expect a large contingent of Hokies at this game. I will be there along with 4 of my friends.

      1. Yep….too bad its so early but I guess you can’t drink all day if you don’t start early

  2. Nashville is a great city. What a great way to kick off the football season. If you can make it for the Vandy game you will not be disappointed. Most people who visit Nashville usually come back.
