The Hokie™ Way announced late last week that its “Countdown to Kickoff” fundraising campaign was a success, exceeding its goal of $250,000 for Virginia Tech NIL and its partner non-profit organizations.

The campaign raised $265,495 from its start on August 1st to its conclusion at 8 PM on September 2nd. $250,000 of that amount was matched, thus raising a total of $515,495.

“Once again, Hokie Nation proved itself to be incredible,” said Matthew Sams, Director of Operations for The Hokie™ Way, in a press release. “Nearly 800 Hokies from over 40 states and multiple countries donated during this campaign, and we couldn’t be more grateful for their generosity and support. It will make a difference for both our charitable partners and Virginia Tech student-athletes.”

Sams informed Tech Sideline via email that of the total raised, 510 donations and nearly $64,000 came from donors who contributed through Tech Sideline’s widget that was embedded in multiple TSL articles and on the message boards throughout the campaign.

A late push in the final week was crucial to getting the campaign over its goal.

“This campaign shows how much Hokies care about making a difference,” said Jim Petrine, President of The Hokie™ Way Board of Directors. “We were tracking a bit short as the campaign wound down but a large gift at the last minute put us over the top. It was an opportunity to make a difference for nonprofits, our communities, and student-athletes – and each donor went above and beyond to answer the call.”

  1. Once again, Hokie fans step up in a big way, despite being treated to another season of offensive incompetence. Let’s hope the performance of the football program can catch up to the fan base!
