After Spring Ball, Virginia Tech Football Sifts Transfer Portal For Needs

Part of Virginia Tech coach Brent Pry’s roster approach this offseason was mathematical and part of it was philosophical.

The Hokies needed to shed a bunch of scholarship players to get under the 85-man limit, which meant some significant paring down. But they also needed to maximize the roster.

“I think I mentioned to them 10 times: It’s my job to make this the most competitive roster that we possibly can [have],” Pry said in a sitdown interview Tuesday. “That’s my job. I want you feeling somebody breathing down your neck, that wants your job, that you’re going, ‘Damn, he works. And he invests. And he’s good.’”

Now that the post-spring window for entering the transfer portal is closed, the Hokies’ roster pruning appears to be complete. Pry confirmed that wide receiver Christian Moss is no longer on the roster, possibly remaining at Virginia Tech as a non-football-playing student.
