Virginia Tech nabbed its second commitment in the 2024 class from Mount Airy High in North Carolina when running back Tyler Mason announced his pledge on Saturday.. He’s a high school teammate of defensive end Deric Dandy, who committed in March.

Mason picked the Hokies over Boston College and Louisville. He also had offers from Appalachian State, East Carolina, Georgia State, James Madison, Liberty and Campbell. Here are his recruiting rankings by various services:

247: 3-star, No. 74 RB, No. 31 NC
Rivals: 3-star, No. 39 RB, No. 17 NC
On3: 3-star, No. 53 RB, No. 18 NC

Mason’s the No. 594 player nationally in 247Sports’ Composite rankings. He ran for 2,303 yards and scored 52 touchdowns for Mount Airy, which won the 1A state championship. He averaged 13.3 yards per carry and 144.3 yards per game. Mason ran for 139 yards and three touchdowns in the title game victory over Tarboro.

He’s the Hokies’ fourth 2024 commitment, along with Dandy, quarterback Davi Belfort and defensive back Joshua Clarke.
