Virginia Tech running back Kenji Christian is no longer listed on the online roster. The news was first reported by 247Sports. A rising redshirt sophomore, Christian never played a snap for the Hokies in two seasons in Blacksburg.

Assuming the departure is permanent, Virginia Tech now has five scholarship running backs on the roster this spring…

Bhayshul Tuten (5-11, 200, Jr.)
Malachi Thomas (6-0, 206, r-So.)
Chance Black (6-1, 190, r-So.)
Bryce Duke (5-11, 205, So.)
Jeremiah Coney (6-0, 189, Fr.)

Those players are supplemented by walkons PJ Prioleau (5-11, 163, r-So.) and Khiari Miller (5-10, 257, r-Fr.). Another true freshman scholarship running back, Tralon Mitchell, will enroll this summer.

  1. I really wanted to see him play atleast once and then make it…dang it – he looks like he has IT!

  2. What is Pry’s fascination with Black? He didn’t look good when he was in there last year. I can’t remember him ever getting more than 3-4 yards on any given run and most of the time it was zero or 1 yard. Could Christian just not pick up pass blocking?

    1. I agree. Just don’t see the potential with Black. Would much rather see Bryce Duke getting chances.

  3. Wait, we have a 5-10, 257 lb running back? I looked him up, he played DT in high school. Is this a clerical error, or does he have RB skills?
