Virginia Tech signed JUCO defensive end James Jennette on Wednesday, per his announcement on social media. Originally from Durham, he began his career at William & Mary before going the JUCO route. He chose the Hokies over listed offers from Appalachian State and Hawaii.
Jennette appeared in six games over two seasons with William & Mary (the spring of 2021 season and the fall of 2021 season). He then departed for College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita, CA. In one season there, he was credited with 24 tackles, five tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks in seven games.
Since one of his seasons at William & Mary shouldn’t count due to COVID, and the other shouldn’t count due to a redshirt year, by my count Jennette has three years of eligibility remaining. At 225 he’s still light and needs to add to his frame while also maintaining his speed and athleticism.
Jennette will enroll at Virginia Tech this summer where he will compete with many other unproven defensive ends for a spot in the two-deep.
