Ishmael Findlayter Commits To Virginia Tech

Ishmael Findlayter
Defensive End, Class of 2023
Clarkson Football North, Mississauga, Ontario, Canada
6-4, 230

Virginia Tech and Brent Pry picked up their 18th commitment in the class of 2023 on Sunday night with the pledge of three-star defensive end Ishmael Findlayter (Ontario, Canada).

Findlayter is the No. 1 ranked player in Ontario, per 247. While On3 rates him as the No. 57 player in the class at the edge position, 247 has him at No. 150. He held offers from Arizona State, Vanderbilt, Central Michigan and Ohio.

He visited Blacksburg the weekend of July 30 and the Hokies’ staff offered him then. The last Tech commit from Canada was wide receiver Joshua Stanford in 2012, who was also from Mississauga. However, Stanford played his senior year of high school football in Georgia.

Findlayter is the second defensive end commit for the Hokies in 2023, joining Richmond native Jason Abbey. Virginia Tech’s class is currently split in half with nine verbals from the Commonwealth and nine commitments from other states (and Canada).

Here’s the full list of 2023 commits for Virginia Tech football (18 total):

  1. It’s all Nice and such-but tons of 3 Stars are not going to get Us back to the Top Ten or close. Recruiting gas sucked for the last 5 Years and more-and We are paying the Price. Ohio State with a HOPEWELL rb HAS THE best Running Back in the Country, Notre Dame, UNC, and Yes, Penn State been pickin Us apart. Other than Khalil Herbert and a rare Few-the Transfer Portal is not really paying off. Still not quite sure why Burmeister left-I thought He was pretty Good. . Good luck to Pry-Fuente never delivered. Glad Bill Roth is back.

    1. Oh my gosh, thanks for pointing all that stuff out…I never realized any of this even after we fired our head coach and staff. It has never been mentioned once on this website about how far behind we have fallen. Thanks for being on top of things for the rest of us.

  2. Welcome new Hokie! …glad to have you join the team!! …& thanks in advance for letting any of us except Poly-negativity stay at your Banff home!

  3. How do we even find someone from Canada? I thought Pry said we were going to focus on a 3-4 hour radius around Blacksburg. Going to Canada for a 3*? 🤨

    1. What about welcoming the young man to Blacksburg and trusting one of the best defensive country. Geez..

    2. Its almost like there is a way to see highlights and such on one of them new fangled computer boxes.

    3. Going to high school in Virginia makes it a very logical choice. Great upside if we can hold on, it looks like if he has a great fall the interested crowd will make a late push.

    4. He played against Life Christian Academy and IMG Academy last year. Since we recruited three guys from LCA and one from IMG for 2023, my guess is he stood out on the videos from those games. Those four guys are uncommitted, BC, Oklahoma, and Mich St.
Clarkson North plays a pretty competitive schedule. They play DeMatha, St. Ignatius, St. Francis, etc this year. Pretty solid program.

  4. Guess we’ll have to play O Canada along with the Star Spangled Banner. Trust me O Canada is easier to sing, if you can sing.

Get this guy a donut NIL. Abuut time we got a Canuk on the team.

    Welcome to the Hokie Nation.
