The recruiting dead period began on Monday, June 27 for Virginia Tech and other college football programs, which means that coaches aren’t allowed to have any in-person contact with recruits. Official visits will begin again when the season starts in September, but for the time being, recruiting is limited to phone calls and direct messaging on social media.

The Hokies hosted their final round of official visitors of the summer over the weekend, but before we get into that, a few recruits are going to make their announcements over the course of the next week.

After taking his official visit to Virginia Tech over the weekend, Highland Springs defensive back Braylon Johnson says he’ll announce his commitment this Friday, July 1. That bodes well for the Hokies since he’s coming off his official to Blacksburg. He took an official visit to just one other school: South Carolina. This one appears to be a Hokies-Gamecocks battle, and Tech seems to be trending here. If he does commit to the good guys, fans will be happy to land a Highland Springs player and the son of former Virginia Tech cornerback Loren Johnson.

Also joining Johnson in announcing on Friday is Essex linebacker Kamren Robinson, who also officially visited Virginia Tech over the weekend. He would be the highest rated commit of the Brent Pry era thus far, if he does choose the Hokies. Here are his rankings…
