Lovett (6-1, 185) picked the Hokies from a list of 15 offers, including a final four of Virginia Tech, Maryland, Cincinnati and Boston College. He is ranked the No. 13 player in the state of Maryland in the 247Sports Composite rankings.
Lovett has been recruited by Virginia Tech for nearly a year. His Twitter profile references attending a camp at Virginia Tech back in early June of 2021, and from that point on, he received attention from Virginia Tech, tweeting multiple VT-produced graphics and tagging former Hokies cornerbacks coach Ryan Smith in the process.
Lovett attended Virginia Tech’s game against Notre Dame last October, but it doesn’t appear he was offered by the previous Hokies staff. Lovett first tweeted about the new Virginia Tech staff on March 9th, tagging new cornerbacks coach Derek Jones. He visited Virginia Tech on April 12th, was offered that day, and committed today.
Given his recruiting history with the Hokies, with Derek Jones as his primary recruiter, it appears that Virginia Tech sees Lovett, who has played both wide receiver and cornerback, as a CB.
