Virginia Tech Spring Practice Discussion: Defensive Tackle

Barring something unforeseen, we know what Virginia Tech’s two-deep at defensive tackle will look like in 2022. However, one of those players is limited this spring, which means some younger guys are getting early looks. A couple of players have also moved to defensive tackle from another position, while another young tackle is apparently coveted by the offensive coaching staff.

Virginia Tech returns three defensive tackles who have played a lot of snaps in their careers, plus a fourth who got his feet wet down the stretch last year.

Mario Kendricks is limited this spring, and he hasn’t gone through contact drills as he rehabs a knee injury. It doesn’t sound like we’ll see him in the Spring Game. Walk-on Nigel Simmons, who has limited experience with 44 snaps in his career, has moved to defensive end. With that in mind, near as I can tell, Tech’s top four defensive tackles at this moment in time are as follows…

1: Norell Pollard (6-0, 281, Jr.)
2: Josh Fuga (6-2, 308, r-So.)
3: Wilfried Pene (6-3, 253, So.)
4: Braelin Moore (6-3, 290, Fr.)
