Devin Alves Commits To Virginia Tech

Devin Alves
ATH, Class of 2022
Melbourne Senior, Melbourne, FL
6-2, 180

Virginia Tech received a late 2022 commitment from Melbourne Senior (Melbourne, FL) athlete Devin Alves on Tuesday afternoon. He will sign with the Hokies on Wednesday. Assuming that 2022 commits Daequan Wright and Xavier Chaplin sign, that will give Virginia Tech 24 signees for the 2022 recruiting class.

Alves played quarterback as a junior, but switched to wide receiver as a senior, and that’s when he really took off as a prospect. After catching just one pass as a junior, he caught 61 passes for 1,249 yards (20.5 ypr) and 15 touchdowns as a senior, with a long of 99 yards. He also stood out on defense with four interceptions and three passes defended.

Alves was only rated by 247Sports over the weekend, and he’s currently considered the No. 62 overall athlete in the country and the No. 118 player in Florida.

Alves didn’t have any other Power 5 offers, but he was a late find by the new Virginia Tech coaching staff after he excelled at his more natural position (WR) as a senior. He took his official visit to Blacksburg this past weekend and received an offer from Brent Pry. It is unknown as to whether the Hokies view him as a wide receiver or safety, but he could potentially play either position at the college level.

  1. Very impressive highlight reel and measurables. I know the highlight vids showcase the best plays, but this guy looks like a legit D1 starter.

  2. Great size, great hands, really good speed and versatile to boot.

Agreed great git by Pry and Staff

  3. Was on Holts radar at Louisville and they didn’t pull the trigger. Another talent covered up by shutdowns and late position changes. Good for us😬

  4. How much did Kam weigh coming out of HS?

6’3″ is great size, and Devin obviously has good speed; who knows how he could mature over the next 4 years… I’m anxious to see our (new) staff develops talented young men like Mr. Alves.

Great pickup… welcome to Hokie Nation, Devin.

  5. Devin Alves – That’s a name I’m committing to memory. The kid looks like a player to me. Good Get.

  6. This guy must have tremendous upside for the staff to take him this late with the numbers the way they currently exist. Looks like Holt found him and Pry agreed. HokieSports lists him as a DB even though recruiting sites say ATH, in prior remarks on the 1/15 signees,
Pry and Price mentioned position flexibility and this young man certainly has that experience. If he is indeed a safety, that room will need to be thinned out to eventually make the numbers.

  7. Explain…..”considered the No. 62 overall athlete in the country and the No. 118 player in Florida.”
