Like the countless other times he’d been to Virginia Tech, Radford (Va.) 2023 wide receiver Marcell Baylor went with the hope of getting a scholarship offer. On Saturday, he was there for the Hokies’ first junior day of the year, and just before he and his family left, he was called into coach Brent Pry’s office.

There, Pry gave Baylor his first scholarship offer. The news put him on cloud nine. Baylor said he and his mom cried, his girlfriend and brother could barely contain their excitement, and he gleefully broke the news to his father, who was hospitalized with an undisclosed condition. In many ways, the moment felt surreal. But for Baylor, it’s what he hopes will really kick start his recruitment.

“It came out of nowhere, honestly,” he said. “It was a blessing. Me and my family, we really wanted it. I worked hard for it and God put it out there for me. I just thank him and Coach Pry for it every second.”
