On Wednesday, Virginia Tech and Brent Pry announced the hiring of Dwight Galt IV as the Director of Football Strength & Conditioning.

Galt ventures to Blacksburg from Old Dominion, where he worked for three years. He joined the Monarchs in January of 2019 after spending seven seasons at Penn State, where he built a relationship with Pry.

His father, Dwight Galt III, is the assistant athletic director in charge of performance enhancement at Penn State. He worked with James Franklin at Vanderbilt and followed Franklin and Pry to Happy Valley in 2014.

Galt IV was the Assistant Director of Strength & Conditioning with the Nittany Lions, a position he held from 2012-2019. He was originally hired there by former head coach Bill O’Brien.

In his time in Happy Valley, Galt IV won a Fiesta Bowl, a Big Ten Championship and a Pinstripe Bowl. A Maryland graduate, where he played four years of football, he was an intern with the Terrapins’ strength and conditioning program before spending three years at South Carolina. He was a graduate assistant and then an assistant strength and condition coach with the Gamecocks under then-head coach Steve Spurrier.

“He’s going to be a culture driver in this football program and I have tremendous respect for him and great leader,” Pry said on Tuesday afternoon. “He and I are already talking about what the rest of the staff will look like and vetting candidates. That’s an important hire.”
