In some ways, Carroll County (Va.) tight end Benji Gosnell already had his mind made up. Like others, he had waited to see who Virginia Tech’s new coach would be, and the addition of Brent Pry helped in his commitment to the Hokies on Dec. 4.

Gosnell said he’s been impressed by Pry, and he also likes his new role with Virginia Tech and what he believes is a bright future. While he’ll continue to rehab a torn ACL suffered after his third game this fall, Gosnell plans to enroll early and be ready for what’s needed and expected.

“I wasn’t going to go to a coach that came in and told me that other guys knew me, and he was going to have me because of that,” Gosnell said. “With Coach Pry, we mutually knew each other from when he was at Penn State. We hadn’t talked, but we knew each other. He seemed to have me and want me. I didn’t want someone to say they’d honor a scholarship, but they didn’t know me. It definitely made the commitment a lot better.”
