Virginia Tech wrestling’s 2021-22 schedule was released Monday afternoon, setting the stage for 15 matches as the Hokies attempt to defend their 2020 ACC regular season championship. VT went undefeated in 2020, going 5-0 in the ACC and 9-0 overall.

“I think [the schedule] is really competitive,” Tech head coach Tony Robie said. “We’ve got a chance to see several of the top teams in the country.”

The Hokies start the season with the Southeast Open in Salem, Va. on Nov. 7 before hosting three straight non-conference opponents, including perennial power Ohio State.

VT follows up the homestand with a premier match-up against a Missouri team that finished in the top five last season.

“Missouri’s got a heck of a team,” Robie said. “You look at what they have on paper, it’s pretty impressive. So that’s, first-semester, going to be a huge test for us.”

Virginia Tech’s schedule also includes the Journeymen Collegiate Wrestling Duals in Fort Walton, Fla., and Southern Scuffle in Chattanooga, Tenn. The Hokies’ annual match at the Moss Arts Center will be against George Mason on January 15th.

Virginia Tech begins its five-game ACC slate on January 21st against N.C. State. Last season’s match against the Wolfpack in Cassell Coliseum ended with Sam Latona’s notorious last-second victory over Jakob Camacho, giving the Hokies the ACC Regular Season Championship.
