Martin plays for Life Christian Academy in Chesterfield, VA, but he’s originally from Durham, NC. A WR/TE prospect until recently, Martin gained a lot of size and camped at various schools as a defensive lineman, picking up numerous offers from the likes of the Hokies, Gamecocks, Florida State, Duke, Tennessee and UVA.
After visiting Virginia Tech three times since recruiting reopened at the beginning of June, Martin took one final visit to South Carolina over the weekend, and opinions were split as to whether he would commit to South Carolina or Virginia Tech. Despite the final visit to the Gamecocks, the Hokies won the battle.
Martin is rated as the No. 21 prospect in the state of North Carolina by 247, but that number could improve as he continues to develop as a defensive lineman as a senior. He is projected to play defensive tackle for Virginia Tech, and he is the 20th commitment of the 2022 recruiting class.
