Virginia Tech picked up a verbal commitment from Pennsylvania tight end Matt Hoffman on Saturday evening. He is the eighth commitment of the 2022 recruiting class and the second tight end in the class, joining Harrison Saint Germain of Chantilly, VA.
Hoffman held no scholarship offers until he gained 20 pounds in the offseason and began attending camps. He has camped at Virginia Tech and Temple since recruiting opened at the beginning of June. He quickly picked up offers at both schools, though he was quick to jump on the offer from Virginia Tech.
Hoffman also plays defensive end in high school, and he has the frame to play it at the college level as well. However, as of now he appears to be recruited as a tight end for the Hokies. Note that all of his film from his junior season is of him playing defensive end, but the Tech staff saw him playing tight end in a camp setting, and they saw enough to offer him a scholarship.
