Virginia Tech Basketball Signs Jalen Haynes

Jalen Haynes
Power Forward, Class of 2021
Montverde Academy, Montverde, FL
6-8, 215

On Thursday Virginia Tech announced the signing of Montverde Academy (FL) power forward Jalen Haynes, who picked the Hokies over a list of schools that include Mississippi State, UCF, USF, VCU, and others.

Haynes was originally a 2020 prospect before reclassifying to the 2021 class.  He originally attended Dillon High School in Ft. Lauderdale before attending Montverde Academy for his postgraduate season.  He averaged 20.2 points and 10.6 rebounds in his lone season at Montverde after averaging 18 points and 10 rebounds in his senior season at Dillon.

Haynes is naturally a power forward, though he could also play center if needed.

Virginia Tech has one scholarship remaining for the 2021 class.

  1. Welcome to the Hokie Nation Jalen – we’re thrilled to have you at VT. A great addition to the team at a position of need, especially if Keve goes pro.

  2. Nice signing! I don’t know anything about his competition, but steady double-double points and rebounds sure is a beautiful sight.

    1. Montverde just won the Geico ‘ship. They play top tier competition. Great pick up!

      1. Scratch that. He played on their post grad team. So yeah not sure either but a double double is still impressive

  3. Yes sir! Welcome & looking forward to seeing Jalen & team “Rocking the Cassell”

  4. I believe that’s Dillard HS. Who presently counts against the scholarship limit?
