Virginia Tech linebackers coach Tracy Claeys has announced his retirement from positional coaching.

Claeys made it clear that he was open to returning to coaching in a defensive coordinator role in the future, but for now he was retiring from the game and spending more time with his family in Kansas. He served as Virginia Tech’s linebackers coach for one season.
Though no official replacement has been named by Justin Fuente, it is thought that current quality control coach and former Hokie linebacker Jack Tyler is the likely successor. Tyler played at Virginia Tech from 2010 through 2013, where he racked up 286 tackles, 32.5 tackles for loss, and 4.5 sacks.
Have fun in Retirement, Jack Tyler was a tough SOB-hope He can Recruit.
Did J. Tyler coach in pro’s or elsewhere?
He was a Bad Man,that’s all You need to know-DelNorte. A step in the right Direction-from a Program going DelSoutho!
Jack was very good. Remember the days when Linebacker talent would just exuded freely and easily in our program year after year over just about a 15 year period:
Vince Hall
Xavier Adibi,
Jason Worilds
Cody Grimm
Ben Taylor
Worilds was a DE Atlanta boy-get your shit together..
Best of luck to Coach Claeys, and this is likely somewhat good news. LB seemed to be a bit off this year, and also from a $$ standpoint. Tyler will be, at first at least, less expensive while Claeys, for our staff, was pretty well paid. It leaves some money to raise some others or perhaps fund “Analysts”.
OK on all but “the LB’s being off a bit” was not due to CTC…it was new system and no spring practice (COVID). IMHO
We keep hearing about a new defensive system. Can anyone explain? Seems like it’s the reason for all of our defensive ills this year.
