The Virginia Tech men’s basketball game with Temple – scheduled for Saturday night in the Air Force Reserve Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off Tournament in Uncasville, CT – has been cancelled due to the Owls’ program being temporarily shut down due to COVID-19.
However, that doesn’t mean the Hokies won’t be playing. Instead of Temple, Virginia Tech will play No. 3 Villanova in the same event. The Wildcats are 2-0 on the season with a 76-67 victory over Boston College and an 83-74 win against No. 18 Arizona State. The Hokies are 1-0 coming off their 77-62 win over Radford on Wednesday.
Villanova is considered to be a legitimate National Championship contender this season under head coach Jay Wright. Tip-off is scheduled for 8pm on Saturday night, and the game will be televised by ESPNU.

I love this. A great learning experience and you never know, maybe we can be U San Francisco today!
LU could be on to something.
Say what?
hey San Francisco U just beat #4 UVA, Hokies can do the same to #3 Villanova, Let’s Go Tech!
This is great we will find out if can complete with a top program I will be happy with great effort on our part GO Tech
I feel this is a very good thing. V will be great early season measuring stick for the team, Young, and fans. Will give us ideas of where we need to improve and realistic expectations for the rugged ACC schedule. Go Hokies !!!!
We got this! GO HOKIES!!
Only thing interesting about this game will be the difference in shooting percentage.
Nova ~ 50-60%, our Hokies 35-40%.. Nova is one of the best shooting teams I’ve seen.
GO HOKIES!!!
Whew, let’s show ‘nova how basketball is played and take it to ’em.
GO HOKIES!!!
Great news. I’m looking forward to watching this game tomorrow night. Go Hokies. A chance to stun the basketball world. Nothing to lose and everything to gain.
Hokiesports.com lists ESPNU. Roanoke Times still says ESPN News. Hope ESPNU is correct.
It’s ESPNU, per hokiesports.com schedule and article. I have corrected the article and will update our schedules.
Verizon Fios has the game listed on ESPN News. ESPNU is listing Troy at Appalachian State football.
Another chance, for the Hokies to get an early season upset, against a No. 3 team!
T-HOKIE, isn’t it easy to be an Optimist at the beginning of the season? 🙂
Oops meant that for Umbrella.
I have VT beating ‘nova this saturday and VT beating clemson next saturday.
🙂
I’ll have some of what he has. 😎
Oops… it’s be an echo in here.
LOL…And what you be smoking, Dude?
Pass it around for all of us…we need more positive post after our football season.
Definitely bet the farm on this.
*(for entertainment purposes only. We do not offer money back guarantees on our picks)
I ‘ll have whatever he’s having.
You lost me on beating clempson.
To be the best you gotta play and beat the best. We probably won’t win but we’ll get some great experience and learn a lot about where we are early in the season. Would love a win though!!
What a great opportunity for the team! Win or lose this game is probably better for the long term development of the team and individual players and the ACC regular season to come than Temple would have been.
My two favorite teams marching up. I know Gillespie and Arcidiacono families so watch them religiously same as VT. Will be tough but look forward to Bebe defending Gillespie as he likes to back you down in post and operate in the paint. Crafty player. Jeremiah Robinson Earl gonna be a problem.
Love it. Go gettem Hokies!
Yes – Love it!!
