Re: difference between quarantine duration for positive tests vs contact tracing. Individuals with COVID-19 (ie a positive test) are contagious for 10 days from their first symptom. If the test positive but have no symptoms, their presumed 10 days of being contagious is from their test date. For those identified by contact tracing (ie if you’ve been exposed – been within 6 feet of a COVID positive individual for 15 min or more), you could start to show symptoms up to 14 days afterward. Contacts could have COVID without symptoms for 2 weeks – that’s a long time you can be spreading it without knowing you have it. Hope this helps clarify the discrepancy. I have to talk families through this every day at work, and it is confusing.
