With the Virginia High School League’s decision to postpone fall sports to the spring, John Handley (Va.) 2022 defensive end Stephen Daley is among those who have been forced to make adjustments.

Training and any kind of practice opportunities have been scant, but Daley has managed to still get his film seen by a few coaches, which has led to a couple of early scholarship offers. Virginia offered in early April, while Virginia Tech followed suit in late August. Still, Daley is just easing into his recruitment, which means a decision isn’t even on his mind, especially as he sorts through his preparation for the spring season.

“It’s been rough and there was a point where we didn’t know if we’d even have a season,” Daley said. “We had to keep ourselves motivated, running, doing conditioning. We’re not even having a (fall) season now. You have to keep yourself motivated, just knowing we’re going to be fine. In my area, they decided, made up a day, said when they’re going to make a choice (on having a season). For those two weeks, it was like, I was hoping to get a season for the seniors to have one. It’s just been hard.”
