Defensive End, Class of 2021
Johns Creek High School, Alpharetta, GA
6-3, 230

Virginia Tech picked up a commitment from 3-star defensive end Cole Nelson of Johns Creek High School in Alpharetta, GA on Friday afternoon.  He is the second defensive end to commit to the Hokies in the 2021 class, joining Mattheus Carroll, and the 17th overall commit of the class.

Nelson had 13 tackles for loss and 7.5 sacks last season as a high school junior.  He picked the Hokies over offers from Indiana, Virginia, Wake Forest, Vanderbilt, Boston College, Michigan State, and others.

Nelson and his parents visited Virginia Tech’s Blacksburg campus in recent weeks, though they could not meet with the Hokie coaching staff.  He was recruited by defensive line coaches Darryl Tapp and Bill Teerlinck.

  1. Maybe it’s the cabin fever affecting my brain, but the highlight videos make me feel like we are getting steals this year based off of recruiting service rankings. I don’t remember being as impressed with highlight reels in the past couple of years as I am this year.

    1. I sincerely hope you’re right… however, when there’s a D-1 player on the field (1-star to 5-star), he’s going to look AMAZING vs regular HS players

    1. That was his best highlight. Way to hustle! They should have led off with that one.

  2. Good film! He plays we with great leverage and hand placement to shed lineman. Also looks relatively quick off the snap. Welcome to Hokie Nation, Cole!

  3. Welcome Home! Looking forward to seeing you on the field in Orange and Maroon and your folks in the stands! (When we can!)

  4. I really like the way he plays the position. Got a good feeling he will do very well in college ball.
