Virginia Tech men’s basketball coach Mike Young has promoted Kevin Giltner to assistant coach following the departure of Antwon Jackson to East Carolina.  Giltner served as the Special Assistant to the Head Coach this past season.

Jackson was the No. 2 assistant coach at Virginia Tech, and it is expected that he is being elevated to the No. 1 assistant coach role at ECU.  In the college basketball world that is considered a promotion and it puts Jackson in a better position to become a head coach at some point in the future.

Though he was not officially a coach in his first season at Virginia Tech, Giltner spent six years on Young’s staff at Wofford, the last five of which came in an assistant coach role.  He spent his first year at Wofford as the Director of Basketball Operations.

  1. He is around the same age as Thomas Jefferson when he drafted Declaration of Independence. Hopefully he is as good at Basketball X & Os as Jefferson was with the pen.

    1. Considering how COVID has negatively impacted my grooming, sitting here now I would say his haircut.

  2. If Mike Young is a good coach, chances are this is a good move. Mike knows him well.
