Cornerback, Class of 2021

Virginia Tech picked up a commitment on Saturday when California cornerback DJ Harvey made his pledge to the Hokies.  He picked Tech over his other two finalists, Oregon and Cal.

Harvey is a 4-star recruit by 247 and is rated the No. 246 prospect in the country, as well as the No. 23 player in California.  The other recruiting services aren’t quite as high on him, as he ranks as a 3-star player and No. 382 overall in the 247 Composite.

Harvey is also listed with offers from Arizona, Auburn, Louisville, LSU, Nebraska, Notre Dame, and others.  He visited Virginia Tech along with other California recruits back on March 1, just before COVID-19 shut down college recruiting.

He is the 12th commitment of Virginia Tech’s 2020 class.

  1. Maybe we can reschedule someone and add a team like USC,UCLA,UNLV,SDSU. Start raiding the PAC10

  2. Great recruit for the Hokies! Worst timing ever for coverage in print…poor fella!

  3. His team does some good blocking on returns and he follows the blocks well

  4. Is there some connection between him or someone in his circle and someone on VTs staff? Not sure how we get a player from California

    1. He’s stated that the fact that Tech has put multiple DB’s in the League peaked his interest.

  5. Great pickup, but I hope he sticks with his commitment. I’m sure local schools are trying to convince his parents to stay closer to home.

    1. Agree..I’d love to have him be a Hokie!!! I’ll get excited once I see him on the field in a Hokie uniform

    2. Agreed, but I won’t count my chickens until they hatch. From my casual monitoring of recruits it seems that actually getting talent from CA (and TX) is tough for us. Would love to maintain our reputation as DBU.
