Carroll also held offers from Boston College, Pitt, Louisville, South Carolina, UVA and West Virginia, among others.  He was one of Virginia Tech’s top targets at defensive end for the 2021 recruiting cycle.

In his commitment announcement on Instagram, Carroll cited new defensive line coaches Bill Teerlinck and Darryl Tapp as big reasons for his commitment, as well as head coach Justin Fuente and defensive coordinator Justin Hamilton.  He is also an All-American wrestler at the high school level, though he does not plan on wrestling at Virginia Tech.

Carroll is ranked as the No. 24 player in Maryland  by 247Sports, and the No. 22 player in Maryland by the 247Sports Composite.  He is the ninth commitment of the 2021 class, and the first defensive end of the class.

  1. Newspaper articles up here in NJ are talking about how Rutgers and Maryland with their new coaches are finally keeping more good recruits within state and not losing them so much to other Big 10 schools. Fine job by VT in getting a good one that was strongly recruited by MD.

  2. Outstanding!

Welcome to Hokie Nation… and yes, we’ll happily stand up.

    But first,

    WE JUMP!

  3. top level wrestler at his length is rare…haven’t watched his highlights yet but I’ll bet his foot work and body bend is good.

  4. Looking forward to some sacks, hurries and knocked down passes. Welcome to the Hokie Nation!!!

    GO HOKIES!!!

  5. A lengthy DE that knows leverage via wrestling, gonna be a powerful tool.

  6. Nice to see we’re already getting some returns from the Teerlink/Tapp connection. Welcome to Blacksburg, Stretch!

  7. Excellent! This kid’s reach is gonna give OTs a very hard time. Height, speed, motor, reach…future is very bright for this young man! Welcome Home!
