Chance Black
Running Back, Class of 2021
Dorman High School, Roebuck, SC
6-1, 190

Virginia Tech picked up a verbal commitment from South Carolina running back Chance Black on Wednesday night.  Black is the eight commitment of the Hokies’ 2021 recruiting class.

Black plays for Dorman High School in Roebuck, South Carolina.  He had 1,067 yards and 11 touchdowns on 166 carries last season while catching 20 passes for 375 yards and five touchdowns.  He is considered a versatile player who can line up in multiple spots on offense, though tailback will be his primary position.

Black chose the Hokies over an offer list of South Carolina, East Carolina, Appalachian State and several others.  The Virginia Tech coaching staff first saw him at a camp in Blacksburg and offered him shortly thereafter.  Black also runs track, finishing fourth in the state of South Carolina in the triple jump.

Black is rated the No. 17 player in the state of South Carolina by 247 Sports, and the No. 15 player in the state by the 247 Composite.

  1. Running style reminds me of Lee Suggs. Always forward, subtle shake, deceptive speed. If he can put on Suggs like thighs he could be an every down back. Good looking pick up..

  2. Welcome Home Chance! From both a Hokie and a parent of two Dorman student athletes. I have seen you play in blue and look forward to seeing you play in Maroon and Orange.

  3. i can definitely see him potentially switching to WR if RB doesn’t pan out. seems like he has some good hands and ability to get open.

  4. His speed seems deceptive to defenses. He gets through the gaps faster than they expect.

Also, I like how Coach Fuente is getting bigger across the board with this class so far.

    1. Yep. Love we’re going after bigger RBs, even if a 3*. Henderson was never coming here, and this is a good pickup physically.

  5. I absolutely love his willingness to run through tackles and drag defenders with him. That’s shows heart and desire.

  6. Looking forward to seeing Chance on the field for the Hokies. He looks like an exciting player.

  7. Welcome, Chance!! Thank you for choosing VT!! Can’t wait to see you in orange and maroon. 👍
