David N’Guessan
6-8, 195
Power Forward, Class of 2020
Mt. Zion Prep, De Lier, Netherlands

Virginia Tech basketball received good news on Thursday when 2020 power forward David N’Guessan gave his verbal commitment to the Hokies.  He announced his decision on Twitter.

N’Guessan visited Blacksburg back on the weekend of February 15 for Virginia Tech’s victory over Pitt, and he has been considered a Hokie lean since that visit.  He chose Tech over Saint Joseph’s, DePaul, VCU and several other programs.  N’Guessan is originally from The Netherlands, and he attends Mt. Zion Prep in Baltimore.

With the announced transfer of Landers Nolley, the Hokies are now at the 13-player scholarship limit for the 2020-21 season if you include the three players of the 2020 class.  To add anymore players to the 2020 class, there will have to be more attrition.  Here are the current projected scholarship players for next season…

G Wabissa Bede (Sr.)
F PJ Horne (Sr.)
F Keve Aluma (r-Jr.)
G Isaiah Wilkins (Jr.)
G Jonathan Kabongo (r-So.)
G Tyrece Radford (r-So.)

  1. Check out the move at mark 1:20 in the above highlight video. Now, that’s an ACC move. I’m excited about this kid. You think If Duke and UNC had offered, he’d be Four star?

  2. I think he has a brother who plays for ETSU. 7 Footer, Lucas N’Guessan. Maybe David still has some growin’ to do.

  3. I wouldn’t sleep on the walk-on announcement, Gill Williamson, a 6-8 forward who attends St. Christopher’s School in Richmond.

  4. Good pickup. Displays a nice handle, athleticism, inside/outside game, shot blocking ability, good hands/feet, ability to get out on the break. I’m sold.

I’ll be interested to watch the development of Aluma, Ojiako, Horne, and N’Guessan as a front-court unit next season.

    1. I’M’guessin it’s in-GESS-in (which looks a bit like indigestion). Great pickup after Nolley decided to leave, however his name is pronounced.

      1. Found a player interview where it was pronounced guh-SAHN. (Silent N at the beginning.) Also found footage of what appears to be a brother or cousin from a few years back that went to OK St. Their announcers pronounced it the same way.

    1. Not meant to be a snide post, but anytime I don’t know something like this I just google “247 players name”. Should do the trick!

      1. Maybe it’s just me, but I would at least add the heighths of all the players listed in the article.

    1. Thanks VT66. I hadn’t seen that before. This kid oozes four star talent. He may not have Nolley’s 3-point shot but he’s got a much higher ceiling. Very athletic for that size. Gonna be a goodun!
