There was never a point over the past three days when North Shore (TX) four-star quarterback Dematrius Davis was “worried” about the situation with Virginia Tech football.

Davis, No. 175 in the Rivals250 for 2021 and No. 136 in the 247Sports Top 247 , has been committed to the Hokies since Nov. 13. He was plenty aware of the reports swirling around Coach Justin Fuente, how Fuente was considered a top candidate and would interview for the head coaching vacancy at Baylor. But before the rest of the world found out at 8:05 yesterday morning via Twitter that Fuente would remain at Virginia Tech, Davis was already informed.

“They texted me, just let me know they were staying,” Davis said. “They were just telling me, ‘You’re my guy, stay at home’ and all that. (Fuente) just summed it up real quick. I called him right before that tweet. That’s when he told me. Then Coach Corn (Brad Cornelsen) texted me and Coach (Beau) Davidson texted me. They told me where they stand.”

Davis has been among the most active commitments the Hokies have had in recent memory. He regularly posts his allegiance on social media and regularly is mentioned by other recruits as trying to recruit them to Blacksburg, too. After yesterday’s news, Davis said he remains firmly entrenched in his commitment to play for Virginia Tech.
