Wilfried Pene
Tight End, Class of 2020
St. Thomas More, Oakdale, CT
6-3, 235

Virginia Tech signed 2020 tight end Wilfried Pene to a Letter of Intent on Wednesday. He was only recently offered by the Hokies, and he visited Blacksburg over the weekend.

247Sports ranks Pene as the No. 3 overall prep school prospect in the country, and No. 1 prep school tight end.  He attends St. Thomas More in Oakdale, CT.  247 rates him as a 3-star prospect.

Pene doesn’t hold any other Power 5 scholarship offers, though there could be a very good reason for that.  He was born and raised in France, and his family is still in that country.  He did not come to the attention of college coaches until very recently, likely when they were on the St. Thomas More campus to recruit 4-star receiver Alante Brown, who will attend Nebraska.

Pene is the only tight end commit of the 2020 recruiting class.

  1. Can’t believe Hoover’s let a French player get away. Looks
Like he could have played for similar sized crowds at Scott also !

  2. Really excited about this guy! I wonder if another reason why he didn’t come to the attention of more coaches had to do with his highlight video? It was hard to figure out which one was him in many of the plays, when the camera was too “zoomed out”, and they circled essentially the entire line… Also, doesn’t look like many of the games were played in front of large crowds, with lots of empty seats and some fields looking like peoples’ back yards. That’ll change when he plays in B’burg!

  3. If we don’t redshirt Pene then something really bad happened. With Rambo, Mitchell, and Gallo (and maybe Deluliis, though I think he may be portal bound) the only reason Pene should play is if we have injuries and even then it should be 4 games or less. He is an ideal redshirt and gain 20 lbs candidate – looks like a very fluid athlete with good speed.

      1. I liked how he just seemed to enjoy knocking kids around, keeping his blocks going way longer than necessary for the play. Shows a mean streak, which I think we need more of on the line…
