Virginia Tech Basketball announced yesterday that they have signed guards Darius Maddox and Joe Bamisile for the 2020 recruiting class.

Maddox and Bamisile are both 4-star recruits and consensus top-100 players, and together they comprise the No. 35 recruiting class in the country per 247Sports, and No. 33 per Rivals. 247Sports lists Tech’s class as No. 9 in the ACC, as does Rivals (with most teams above them having more commitments).

Joe Bamisile:  6-5, 175-pound shooting guard from Monacan High School in Richmond, VA. Rated No. 66 in the country by 247Sports. Averaged 28 points, seven rebounds and two assists as a junior. Picked Virginia Tech over Florida, Northwestern, Georgia Tech, Kansas State, Miami, and others. Note that the Richmond Times-Dispatch is reporting that Bamisile will miss his senior season (pay link) with an injury but should be ready to play at Virginia Tech when he arrives in 2020.

“Joe is a tremendous fit for our university and our system,” Virginia Tech head coach Mike Young said in a hokiesports.com press release. “He can really shoot the ball and brings ACC-caliber athleticism from Day 1. But what attracted us the most is his ability to make plays for both himself and others. We are excited to add Joe to our program and is a welcome addition from inside the Commonwealth. We are excited to see Joe flourish at Virginia Tech!”

Darius Maddox: 6-4, 180-pound shooting guard out of Oak Hill Academy. Originally from Bowie, MD, he played his junior season for St. John’s College High School in Washington, DC, where he scored 350 points. Picked Virginia Tech over Cincinnati, Creighton, DePaul, GW, Georgetown, Kansas State, and others.

“Darius possesses the size, speed, scoring ability and IQ of what we are looking for in our system,” Young said. “He has played for two tremendous programs in St. John’s College High School and in-state power Oak Hill Academy. He has done a tremendous job preparing himself for major college basketball. Darius comes from a great family and is a young man who wants to win, and we love that. We are excited to have him here as a Hokie!”

    1. Haha, nope. Covering basketball recruiting is like trying to herd cats. Way too many moving parts and twists and turns for a small operation like us to do it justice.

  1. it would appear CMY has much better connections at Oak Hill than our previous 2 coaches. – – which has been a goldmine for other significant colleges for decades.
would anyone have numbers that support my hypothesis?

welcome Mr Bamisile and Mr Maddox! we think you’re getting in on the ground floor of a rising team star and will have a load of fun as your own star rises in Cassell.
