Virginia Tech picked up a commitment from 2021 defensive back Jalen Hoyle on Monday night. He is the Hokies’ first commitment of the 2021 class.

Hoyle attends Dwight Morrow High School in Englewood, New Jersey.  He has held a Virginia Tech offer since the summer.  Though the Hokies are his first offer, he is rated as the No. 25 safety prospect nationally and the No. 14 prospect in Jersey in the 2021 class by 247Sports.

Hoyle is the first commitment of the 2021 class, which is expected to be bigger than the 2020 class.

  1. First commit for 2021 is on defense? Maybe “they” are sure who the new DC is, are, will be. We know the school he’s committing to, but who is the DC he’s committing to?

    1. Even if the new DC is locked up, there’s a 0% they’d tell a high school junior more than a year from signing an LOI who the next DC will be. If they’re telling recruits who the new DC is, the whole world would know by now.

      1. Of course that’s true. My point was this is about as hollow and shallow a commit because it’s 2 years away AND he doesn’t know who the DC will be.

    2. There were a lot of character and development as man that was talked about with jalen. No coach is guaranteed to stay with a team and he understands that life after football is important. Bud is still going to be hands on with whatever DC comes to town. We have been in town several times and its bigger than football. That takes care of itself if he handles his business as a student and young man. Those coaches are men of great character and the lunch pail mentality is respected in any facet of life.

  2. Should be plenty of playing time/opportunity at the safety spot in the next couple of years.

        1. There are other guys currently on the roster who hopefully will take over the safety spot in ‘21 & ‘22 ahead of a freshman.

  3. Love to see verbal commitments, but for a kid who is class of 2021, I suspect he will get a lot more offers, and his verbal to us is not locked in stone.

    1. I can see Penn State offering this morning. Once they do, his star rating will increase to 4. 😉
