It seems that quarterback Hendon Hooker (2) may be the answer head coach Justin Fuente has been looking for all season. As a first-time starter against Miami, Hooker was able to orchestrate one of the most impressive and memorable road wins we have seen in a while. The redshirt sophomore was unfazed, poised, and executed the offensive game plan flawlessly against a very talented top 15 Miami defense, but it begs the question – why did it take so long for the coaching staff to start Hendon Hooker?

Fuente has mentioned that Hendon Hooker had an outstanding offseason coming into this season. In his post-game press conference after the Miami game, he stressed the word “great” offseason when talking about Hooker, and about how he prepared and worked hard to perfect his game. That’s something you love to hear as a coach and a fan. 

If practice makes perfect, he definitely showed everyone at Miami what he’s capable of. He may just be the spark this program needs to turn what’s been an underwhelming start of the season into something everyone can get excited about.

I know what you’re thinking. We’re talking about one game. If Miami was more prepared, maybe the game ends up differently. Maybe there would be no running lanes for Hooker to run through, and the tight ends wouldn’t be left wide open. Perhaps.
