Drive for 25 Blitz Update: Numbers, and More Chances to Join Through Tonight

Drive for 25 Blitz
(Jon Fleming)

A special message and update from Bill Lansden, Executive Director of the Hokie Club:

With more than $640,000 raised from over 2,200 gifts, we are well on our way to accomplishing something truly significant for our student-athletes and Hokie Athletics.  We have until midnight Friday to continue the positive momentum!

We are in the proverbial 4th Quarter. The time of the game when Hokies have risen up to the challenge and pulled out many victories. Today, I am asking you to do the same. If you haven’t already, please reach out to your friends, family and colleagues to urge them to join the Drive for 25. They can donate to the Hokie Club on-line for as low as $25 by going to Drivefor25.com.

Here’s another way you can help: if you are attending tonight’s game against Duke, we will stop by your tailgate to sign-up new Hokie Club members. We have 10 teams of staff and volunteers wearing bright pink shirts walking the parking lots looking for new members. Just email [email protected] or call 540 231-6618 and let us know your parking location.

If you need a little more motivation to take part in the Drive for 25 Day Blitz, please read Bud Foster’s quote. He sums it up quite well.

“I’ve been fortunate to work at Virginia Tech for the past 33 years. I know the vital role our fans have played in all of our successes. With the way they support our team, the way they travel and the way they invest in us to help us build facilities and pay for scholarships, that just doesn’t happen everywhere. Our fans and donors have helped us build this program into what is today. We need more folks to get on board and join the Hokie Club today. We also need our existing Hokie Club members to continue showing their pride in Virginia Tech by investing in the future of Virginia Tech Athletics. This is my last season coaching, and I will forever be appreciative of our fan base. I want to see this program keep growing, and I encourage our fans to help us, just like they always have.”  – Bud Foster

  1. I hope this does not happen, but after last night the Drive for 25 may become the Drive to keep what we already have. Something has to give here. I did not go to TECH but have lived in the Cburg area for the past 60+ years. I buy season tickets for Football (since 1978), Men’s basketball and Women’s basketball and we all know that FOOTBALL is the main money maker at TECH. If changes are not made soon, then we will be looking for some other way to raise the money for scholarships. I will continue to give but it is getting harder and harder to do this after what I saw last night. Just my two cents for what it’s worth–two cents!

  2. First time Hokie Club Member as of 10 minutes ago (through the TSL Link of course). Graduated 30 years ago. What took me so long? @willstewart finally convinced me.

  3. Adding to Rockie’s comments, I grew up in Roanoke as a VT fan and had a lot (too much) fun in Blacksburg so ended up at Roanoke College. I support both schools financially and even though I didn’t graduate from VT, guess which school’s shirt I’m wearing tonight?

If I add up the money I spend on being a VT fan per year, how can I not find $25 or $50 or more to donate directly to the school (and even program as I donated to VT Golf)?

If you are reading this and haven’t donated yet, please give serious consideration to doing so while the Blitz is still happening as there are lots of matching pledges that can 2x your donation.

  4. Come on Hokies you can do this. I’m not a graduate of VT and didn’t attend VT. I grew up being a Hokie fan and have been in the Hokie Club for more than 30 + years (forget how many). If a non-graduate can give and be a Golden Hokie then the students and graduates of VT need to also help the sports programs at VT. We are the “Hokie Nation” so lets get behind this and support it going forward!
Like everything else in this world it takes money and loyal fans in this case to make it happen!!
