We’re three games into the season, and seven true freshmen have seen playing time for Virginia Tech.  However, only six of them actually saw the field against Furman, which makes me wonder whether or not the staff is open to the possibility of redshirting one of them.

Virginia Tech Freshmen Who Have Played

Six true freshmen played a major role in Virginia Tech’s victory over Furman.  Here are the snap counts for the season, and my take on each player.

WR Tayvion Robinson: 7 special teams snaps, 102 offensive snaps, 109 total snaps.  Robinson leads Virginia Tech in receptions (14) and receiving yards (165).  He will continue to play a big part in Virginia Tech’s offense in the slot throughout the season.

DT Mario Kendricks: 1 special teams snap, 62 defensive snaps, 63 total snaps.  Kendricks only played 11 snaps against Furman, perhaps because of their more complicated offense.  Tech is playing five defensive tackles this season, which gives them quality depth, so the snaps will be spread out.  Kendricks has shown flashes of being a really good player, he just needs experience.
