  1. i will admit i was not a fan initially of the MY hire, mostly because of his lack of recruiting D1 talent. however, i will be the first to say i am pleasantly surprised at his assistant coaches and the recruiting they have done thus far.

only time will tell if he can take this talent and make us an ACC contender year after year. his overall coaching record isnt amazing, but hopefully with the level of talent hes pulling in, he can change that.

  2. Welcome home. I’m officially as happy as I can be with what CMY has been able to do. Time will tell, but all signs point upward. We’ll still take our lumps for the next few years as they forge a team, but the individuals in place look mighty, mighty fine!

  3. So CC I’m still waiting for you to say that Webbie is a “questionable hire”. seems like he’s getting he’s getting it done.

    1. So you are saying your hindsight is far superior?

CC based his eval on Webster’s previous body of work. What else was he supposed to do?

  4. welcome! Mr Maddox!! as you play out your senior season at OHA, please drop our name frequently among your teammates who would like to follow in the years to come.

CC: nice graphic of pictured Mr. Maddox. the new (football uniform reminiscent) V and Hokie stone field. name and position/class flanking a sweet word: COMMITTED.

here’s hoping we can keep this ‘verbal.’ in our not too distant past there has been much gnashing of teeth over verbals who got syphoned off by coaches with females of questionable repute and money to boot.

Go Hokies! Go CMY and Staff Coaches!

    1. You mean CMY. I sure feel a lot better about him than 4 months ago but we need a PF too.

      1. I don’t know… not taking anything at all away from CMY but I’d say every time he gets another big commitment Whit Babcock looks that much better.

  5. WOW!!!!! Made my day!!!!!! Coach Young and staff are rocking and rolling…………….basketball is alive and well in the ‘burg!!!! Go Hokies!!!!!!!

    1. If true, its funny that the line on Christian during Buzz’s tenure was that he was not a good recruiter and that Buzz was not sure about keeping him. Perhaps CCW just needed a more supportive HC to let him shine.

      1. What’s unfair about that criticism is Webbie was the only one of Buzz’s guys on the recruiting trail. I think he was the lead on Em Miller, even with McNeillys Canadian ties.

    1. still a long way to go but clearly things are definitely looking up. Go CMY AND staff!

  6. Welcome to Hokie Nation, Darius!! Glad you’re coming home to Blacksburg. Can’t wait to see you rock the Cassell………

  7. Wow, nice job by Mike Young and his staff! They are reeling in highly-ranked recruits left and right. #1 ranked baller in DC is nothing to sneeze at. They play some ball up there.

  8. And to think we could have hired mike young instead of Wuzz in 2014! This dude can recruit!

    1. I don’t think so- Buzz raised the visibility of VT like no one else. That’s what these kids see. Young has sold them that he will continue the trend. Kudos to him.

Mike Young came in at exactly the right time.

      1. What he is doing is nothing short of awesome!

Tell me who else we could have hired that would have done as well?

Damining him with faint praise is inappropriate. He has exceeded every expectation I had and most others as well

        1. Totally agree. I was taking the “wait and see” but he’s exceeded all expectations so far. Good staff picks, good recruiting and his past coaching shows he can beat the “big boys”.
