Derrell Bailey Jr.
Defensive Line, Class of 2020
Greenback School, Greenback, TN
6-5, 255

Virginia Tech picked up a commitment on Sunday afternoon from Greenback School (TN) defensive lineman Derrell Bailey Jr.  He is the eighth commitment of the 2020 recruiting class, and the first defensive lineman of the class.

Bailey is listed with a number of high-profile offers, including LSU, Florida, Oklahoma, and others.  However, he is a 3-star recruit by 247Sports, and only the No. 34 player in Tennessee according to their composite rankings.

Listed at either 6-5 or 6-6, and 255 pounds, itโ€™s unclear whether heโ€™s being recruited to play defensive end or defensive tackle for the Hokies.  With his frame, he could end up as perhaps the biggest defensive end the Hokies have had in the Bowl Era, or he could potentially slide inside to defensive tackle, where he would be much taller than the average Tech defensive tackle.  Bailey also plays offensive line in high school, and has the frame to play there at the college level.

Bailey visited Virginia Tech for the Blacksburg Bash BBQ over the weekend.  He is the second commitment to come out of that event, joining cornerback Dorian James.  The Hokies also appear to be strongly positioned for defensive end Stephen Sings of Charlotte, NC.

  1. Remembers Duan BRown toes in bound TE catches at the side line. Remember Duane Brown, being to OL against Mario Williams. Remembers 10 year run at top 3 LT

  2. Note for D Strong we couldnโ€™t leave comments. ( why was that, Will?). Contrast with Derrell is striking. When I look at Strong s film I think โ€œGood Lord, this is the same coaching staff that had reservations about offering Cole Beck? โ€œ Good to just have Beck on campus. Already a productive athlete. I hope Strong is good, but I donโ€™t see it. I like the looks of Bailey!

  3. Like how even when the play was designed to go away from his side, he still got involved. Shows two things, opposing coaches respect him and he is a playmaker

    Go Hokies!

  4. Great to have you Mr Bailey!! Too bad for LSU and others!!! He will have a great career defensively here!

  5. Looks like a great get with beating out the schools we did, especially from the SEC and of coarse UVA. Always like beating them in everything, especially recruiting.
