Virginia Tech basketball got a piece of good news on Thursday afternoon when Monacan High School (Chesterfield, VA) guard Joe Bamisile flipped his commitment from Northwestern to the Hokies.  He is Tech’s first commitment of the 2020 class.

Bamisile is a highly-touted guard who originally committed to Northwestern over offers from the Hokies, Florida, Kansas State and West Virginia.  However, after several months on the job, Mike Young and his staff were able to flip the in-state prospect.

Here’s a list of Bamisile’s national rankings by the various services…

Rivals: No. 73 overall, No. 17 shooting guard
247: No. 65 overall, No. 13 shooting guard
ESPN: No. 63 overall, No. 14 shooting guard

He is Virginia Tech’s first commitment for the 2020 recruiting class.  We’ll have more on his recruitment and what his commitment means for Virginia Tech in a TSL Pass article later today.

  3. Impressed with the recent highlight video I saw on YouTube. Big wingspan & broad shoulders. Wouldn’t be surprised if he’s not done growing. Nice inside/outside game. Sweet stroke. Comfortable handling the ball & driving the hole. Dunks with ease. This is a huge in-state pickup.

  4. Getting a highly-rated in-state recruit is a big deal for Hokies. Way to go Mike Young and staff!

  5. Don’t mind at all about taking so much heat and Crap from people over Mike Young. When l backed him from day one. Even flak from a Mod on this site..Whit hired for VT and got the right man..

    1. mike young hasn’t won a game yet. right hire or not, only time will tell. ultimately, it comes down to wins and losses.

    1. Not crow entirely for me since I said I would do a “wait and see” but I’ve been impressed so far. Nice work.

  6. Awesome

Guess Whit knew more than I gave him credit for knowing.

MY not taking a backseat to BW in recruiting.

    Awesome !

    1. I bet Whit knows more about hiring college coaches than all of us! 🙂 In Whit I trust.

      1. Not that I’m not happy(and surprised) with Mike Young. Was it hard to get a kid to decommit from a school that has made one NCAA tournament? He didn’t take a football recruit from Pat Fitzgerald. It was a basketball recruit from Chris Collins.
