The 2019 ACC Football preseason predictions were released today, and Virginia Tech was picked by the media to finish third in the Coastal Division. The media picked Clemson to win the Atlantic Division, as well as the ACC championship.
Virginia’s selection as the predicted Coastal Division winner is a remarkable about-face from the last five years. The Cavaliers were picked to finish last in the Coastal every year from 2014-2018. UVA opens the season with a road game at No. 4 pick Pitt, and they later play at No. 2 pick Miami as well, but they will host both Virginia Tech and Atlantic opponent Florida State this year.
2019 ACC Football Preseason Predictions Notes
In total, 173 ballots were cast, 25 more than last year, and every Coastal team received at least one first-place vote. Clemson received 170 votes for ACC champion, Syracuse received two, and Virginia received one.
Sponsored by the Drive for 25: The Hokie Club’s Drive for 25 is a campaign to increase membership in the Hokie Club to 25,000 members. No matter where you live, you can make an impact in the lives of Virginia Tech student-athletes! To learn more about the Drive for 25, click here.
Virginia Tech has not been predicted to win the Coastal Division since the 2012 season. Pittsburgh won the division last year after being selected fifth in the preseason poll.

that is the reason we play the games…………… to test reality versus opinion ! I am excited to see the newer players get involved. it appears we have about 20 to 22 4stars on the team this year, so the future looks good. I think this is more 4 stars than we have had in a long time.
je ris à haute voix
Hahahaha!! Well playedTwo4.
Lol. They will probably be hanging a banner in Scott Stadium this year for it.
Good! VT locker room bulletin board material. GO HOKIES!
Starting 2-5 at start of season will destroy any positive momentum they had in the off season, suspect the coach’s buyout will be top of discussion as the mobile QB will be lucky to be upright after the pounding he will take in the first 7 games….
Let’s Go…Hokies!!!
BEAT BC!!
Gowad…..
Bless their hearts.
Uva? Lolololololololololololololololololololololol

I don’t see it.
1. We have really easy schedule
2. We have offensive firepower returning. Should produce more offense than we normally do.
3. Defense is sure to rebound. If only a little it should be noticeable.
I’m feeling like 10-2 (7-1 in ACC). No way we lose to UVa.
Good. That will make us just a bit more hungry and underrated.
Okay, so it’s been picked correctly once when it wasn’t VT. That’s crazy.
So they were correct only 6 out of 15 times, wrong 9 out of 15 times. Is that pretty poor picking, or pretty good at picking poorly?
And don’t forget . . . 5 of the 6 correct picks, were VT. They only have 1 other correct pick over all the years.
Exactly, so we know it won’t be UVA. More likely: Tech; Miami; Pitt…
However comma … they’ve only been wrong *when picking VT* twice out of seven, both times due to the head-to-head with PJ’s crazy offense. And only once did they pick us not to win, yet we did. Every other time they had us either winning or not winning, correctly. This year they have us not winning, and frankly order after first doesn’t matter except for bowl destination (which seems even more blurred in the out years). So 11 out of 14, they are correct in terms of whether or not we are in the ACCCG.
I have no reason to believe UVA is it, and Miami has yet to prove they can actually sustain offense with a former DC as coach and losing Richt. But I agree that Pitt is a real contender. I suspect they’ll be wrong again, but otherwise I’m just looking forward to seeing if we can rebound on defense due to experience/conditioning, and improve on offense due to experience (mostly Willis). Will be a fun ride, I hope, and not the constant head-banging disappointment that last year was, until the last two games.
P.S. I was in Norfolk for ODU last year, with my niece who is an ODU student. I adjusted my expectations really early that season – I just hope I can be confident longer this year given our schedule.
So last 14 years they have picked it right less than 50% of time….
