During the five-hour car ride from Blacksburg to Virginia Beach, Green Run (Va.) three-star athlete Lakeem Rudolph had some thinking to do. He and his mother had just unofficially visited the Hokies on June 7. If anything, Rudolph just wanted some confirmation and support that his desire to commit to Virginia Tech was the right choice.

“I knew (I wanted to commit) probably early June,” Rudolph said. “That’s when I really knew. I went on a visit and spent 45 minutes on the car ride home talking to my mom about it. I told coach (Justin Fuente) I’d go on the car ride and talk to my mom and tell them I had good news. I told Coach Fuente. He was excited, Coach (Justin) Hamilton [was excited].”

It was during that trip home that Rudolph made his commitment to the Hokies. He announced it publicly July 3. Now that he’s solidified his future home, Rudolph said he’s readying himself for when he arrives in Blacksburg for college next summer. Much of Rudolph’s confidence in Virginia Tech can be attributed to his mother.
