Virginia Tech lost a commitment on Sunday when 2020 wide receiver Jalin Hyatt decided to open his recruitment.

Hyatt committed to Virginia Tech way back on February 2 over offers from Tennessee, Michigan, Penn State, Arkansas, Duke and several other programs.  Since then he has added an offer from Miami, but the Hurricanes’ offer doesn’t seem to be the reason that he’s looking around.  Instead, Hyatt seems to feel that he committed far too early to the Hokies, and wants to better assess all of his options.  He most recently visited Tennessee.

As a junior at Dutch Fork High School in Irmo, SC, Hyatt recorded 71 receptions for 1,316 yards.  This decommitment did not come out the blue, as the coaching staff anticipated it and offered South Florida commit Tyree Saunders, who hopes to take a visit to Blacksburg this summer.  Norfolk, VA wide receiver KeAndre Lambert also remains at the top of Virginia Tech’s list.

  1. WR is one of the few positions where we are loaded with awesome players. In this case, it is his loss if another player takes his spot. I look forward to recruits that want to be Hokies. Now bring on some DT’s.

  2. I hate to say it, but for some recruits the word “commitment” is defined as ” I’ll secure a spot wth this program until something better comes along”. I don’t pretend to know anything about this kid, but it’s not a good first impression. He certainly has the right to do what what he deems best for him, but it would have been better for all parties if he had given things more forethought and planned his recruitment process better. Maybe he got some bad information from those around him, or….none at all. Maybe he’s not quite as mature as he might think he is.
So, Just move on…………….NEXT MAN UP

  3. I dont say this often about any recruit but we might want to Forget this kid and move on. If SC and Clemson still hasn’t offered since February when we offered then like a few other Posters suggested…..something is out of wack.

PLUS we need to make 4star KeAndre Lambert a “must get” priority. This is a VIRGINIA recruit with a 4star rating that’s the cousin of Kam Chancellor. That’s the kid we need to get.

  4. A Three Star Athlete from South Carolina with no offers from either Clemson or South Carolina ? To my way of thinking, there is an obvious message here and it ‘ain’t’ good !

  5. 100% committed to 100% open. I’m thinking that word (commitment) doesn’t mean what you think it means.
