Virginia Tech guard Nickeil Alexander-Walker was selected by the Brooklyn Nets as the No. 17 pick in the NBA Draft Wednesday night. He is part of a proposed trade that will send him to New Orleans, where he’ll begin his NBA career.

Alexander-Walker is the first Virginia Tech player drafted since Erick Green went in the second round to the Utah Jazz in 2013, and he’s the first Virginia Tech 1st-round pick since Dell Curry was drafted by the Utah Jazz as the No. 15 pick in 1986.

A native of Toronto, Alexander-Walker played two seasons at Virginia Tech, declaring for the draft after his sophomore season. He started all 67 games of his college career, scoring 902 points and shooting 46.4 percent from the field and 76.3 percent from the free throw line. Nickeil Alexander-Walker made 38.3 percent of his three-point attempts during his time in Blacksburg, and in his sophomore season, he averaged 16.2 points per game, tops on the Hokies, and added 4 rebounds, and 2.7 assists.

  1. I’ll say it again, I don’t get it, but I wish him the best and will always be a fan. We’ve had MUCH better players.Yeah, I’m no scout, I know it. Go Hokies and go NAW!

  2. Decent chance that team is REALLY good in the near future, between Zion and all the draft picks they got by trading Anthony Davis. Hopefully NAW is in for a good run and will be a big part of it.

  3. NAW thank you for coming to VT and wish you a great future in the NBA You and your teammates did a great job for VT and you and your teammates will not be forgotten as all of you showed VT CAN BE a major factor in the ACC
