Virginia Tech landed a commitment from 2019 guard Nahiem Alleyne on Sunday morning.  Alleyne, a 6-3, 170-lbs shooting guard from Georgia, was originally a member of the 2020 recruiting class, but he’ll reclassify to 2019 and enroll at Tech in time for the coming season.  He visited Blacksburg over the weekend, and was quick to make his decision.  247Sports first reported the news.

Alleyne is a 3-star recruit with offers from Nebraska, USF, St. John’s and Hofstra.  It was expected that he would add more offers this summer had he elected to stay in the 2020 class.  He becomes the second 2020 prospect to reclassify to 2019 and commit to the Hokies, joining 4-star guard Jalen Cone.

With Alleyne’s commitment, here’s what Virginia Tech’s current 2019-20 roster could look like…

C Kerry Blackshear, r-Sr. (transfer portal, may not return)
C Branden Johnson, r-Sr. (graduate transfer, eligible immediately)
G Wabissa Bede, Jr.
F PJ Horne, Jr.
F Keve Aluma, Jr. (Wofford transfer, must sit out the 2019-20 season)
G Isaiah Wilkins, So.
G Jonathan Kabongo, So.
F/G Landers Nolley, r-Fr.
G Jalen Cone, Fr.
G Hunter Cattoor, Fr.
G Nahiem Alleyne, Fr.

Head coach Mike Young still has room to add two more scholarship players if Blackshear returns.  If Blackshear transfers, Young would have room to add three new players, though finding quality players at this late stage is extremely difficult.

  1. My first thought was, “He’s way too skinny for an offensive guard.”
    Then the light dawned.

  2. Is there a timeline on the Blackshear decision? Or can he wait until the first game tipoff to decide?

    1. He can go as late as August. No specific date, but he does have to pick a school and enroll for the fall.

  3. Welcome aboard. It is going to be a young team; but by the 21-22 season it could be Legen – wait for it – dary.

    GO HOKIES!!!

  4. Has Aluma requested a waiver to play immediately? Seems I read that he was giving that a shot.

  5. Yes. Welcome Mr. Alleyne. Hokie Nation can’t wait to see you fill up the cylinder.

  6. At this point, the main thing is that we got another body. In Mike and Zeke I trust.

    1. agree, but I hope to see a non-guard soon. Otherwise, will be playing very small next few years.
