This spring, 2020 Bluefield (WV) three-star defensive end Sean Martin was quite busy with college visits. Of the 23 offers he now has, Martin visited Virginia Tech, Vanderbilt, North Carolina, Duke, West Virginia, NC State and Virginia.

Each visit gave Martin something to keep in mind about another potential destination. It’s not that Martin wasn’t inquisitive himself on those trips, but because he’s still poring over his options with no decision in his immediate future, he let his mother, who was at every visit, ask the bigger questions.

“The ones I visited recently, they all have great academics,” Martin said. “I feel like I was treated the same at every place, but you have to realize, they’re also recruiting you. Usually, my mom talks the whole time. I can enjoy it, but she talks all the time. So, when we visit, I let her do the talking. She does her research on every school.”
