Virginia Tech Offer Alters Matthew Hibner’s Recruitment

Matthew Hibner
Tight End, Class of 2020
Lake Braddock High School, Burke, VA
6-3, 230

Last week, Lake Braddock (VA) tight end Matthew Hibner was simply hoping to get noticed. This week, that’s more than come true.

On Monday, Virginia Tech became the first FBS school to offer Hibner, followed soon by Old Dominion and Yale. In just a few days, the approach he’s taking with his recruitment has completely changed. Hibner attributes much of the interest to growth and development, though it’s been more than normal.

“I think the biggest factor is during my junior season, I was around 190 (pounds) and more skinny,” he said. “Now I’m almost 230, and I’ve really blown up after the season. I’m on pace to get bigger, and that’s probably the biggest factor. I’m getting more used to my body. But I’m still keeping my speed and agility. I’ll keep putting on weight until it’s clear I need to stop. Other than that, they’re seeing me play. I think I’ve developed a lot since junior season. My route-running and blocking has improved since then as well.”
