Landers Nolley To Stay At Virginia Tech

Landers Nolley will remain at Virginia Tech. (Jon Fleming)

New Virginia Tech men’s basketball coach Mike Young picked up his first recruiting win on Wednesday when rising redshirt freshman wing Landers Nolley announced that he would not be transferring.

Nolley had entered his name in the transfer portal, but elected to remain at Virginia Tech after multiple conversations with Young and the new staff.  Nolley redshirted this past season due to an academic situation, though it’s expected that he’ll be able to play in 2019-20.

Nolley, a Georgia native, was a highly-touted recruit coming out of high school.  Here were his recruiting rankings…

247: 4-star, No. 68 nationally
Rivals: 4-star, No. 49 nationally
ESPN: 4-star, No. 93 nationally

Listed at 6-7, 230, Nolley is regarded as an excellent shooter, which fits well with Mike Young’s offensive system.

  1. The most important bit of information we need to know is…

How do I get hold of one of those awesome sweatshirts?

  2. Praise GOD!!! This is good news! If we can keep Blackshear and convince Harris to stick with his commitment, we will have some good talent to be competitive this upcoming season….

  4. HOKIE NATION, see the sky is not falling- what a great start for Coach Young. My prediction is that over the next couple of years we will be wishing that we hired CMY instead of Brent (I no longer refer to him as Buzz) back when we did. Kudos CMY on landing Landers and bringing on an exceptional staff. And only the best to you and your staff now and in the future in keeping HOKIE BASKETBALL in good, if not, better hands.

  5. Excellent news indeed! Surprised the announcement was not proofread for grammar before posting it live.

  6. I am very excited to have Landers Nolley II stay at Tech and become a part of something big for Mike Young and his staff! Great News!!!

  7. Awesome news and a wonderful message on his graphic. Now Landers, convince KBJ to stay and play with you. Maybe the sky is not falling and CMY can recruit. Go Hokie MBB!

    1. Optimism is definitely up. Time will tell if this is a “I don’t want to sit another yr” move or “I love Coach Young and he recruited me hard” move. We will find out sooner or later, but I will go with the glass half full. Either way, HUGE move

  8. Imagine it’s a pretty strong recruiting tool when you can tell a shooting guard that you just coached the NCAA career 3pt field goal leader. Score one for ol’ Mike Young!

  9. With the coaching staff additions, and this retention of talent, I believe Coach Young is answering a lot of questions and concerns Hokie Nation expressed since his hiring. Whether you questioned Whit’s coaching choice or supported it, it seems all of us have something to be excited about regarding Landers return and the new staff additions. I really like what I’m seeing from this guy!

      1. You didn’t think Williams wanted anyone on board that he might have to share the spotlight with, do ya?
