Two Virginia Tech players earned All-ACC honors in a voting consisting of ACC head coaches and some members of the media.

Kerry Blackshear, who was dominant in the month of February, was named Second Team All-ACC with a total of 170 points.  Nickeil Alexander-Walker was Third Team All-ACC with 72 points.  Blackshear also received two votes for the ACC’s Most Improved Player.

Here’s how the voting looked…

Head coach Buzz Williams finished second in the voting for ACC Coach of the Year.  UVA’s Tony Bennett won the award with a total of 30 votes.  Most of the media was split between four other candidates, which prevented anyone being a serious challenger to Bennett at the top.  Here’s how the voting broke down…

Tony Bennett, UVA: 30
Buzz Williams, VT: 12
Roy Williams, UNC: 11
Leonard Hamilton, FSU: 10
Chris Mack, Louisville: 7

All ACC coaches plus 55 media members took part in the voting.  A separate AP All-ACC vote will be released on Tuesday.

  1. NAW squeaks in as 3rd team. Big drop from Battle to him in points. At the beginning of the season TSL compared NAW to Okogee (GT) as a rationale for NAW being an NBA caliber player. The similarities are there (Soph, 3rd team ACC). Here are some other comparisons. Erik Green, Malcolm Delaney, Zabian Dowdell all 1st team ACC (Green ACC player of the year) as seniors. All had very short NBA careers and were not drafted that highly. I can hope, can’t I?

  2. I have no use for the whole exercise, meaningless clickbait drivel. If Buzz and Kerry are not top end, it’s just more ACC BS

    1. Agreed. KBjr. isn’t first team w/the season he had, carrying the team over the last 10 games? I like Bennett, a what did UVA accomplish that it wasn’t expect to? Tech had high pre-season expectations, w/Clarke and Nolley anticipated to be in the fold and a roster that went 10 deep. But neither played, a minute and halfway through the ACC schedule we lost our QB. Rarely from then on did we go deeper than 7 and everyone of them had to change roles. And yet, we finished about where we were expected to and set a program record for conference wins. Buzz did a masterful job navigating the shoals which could have ripped the bottom out of the boat.

  3. I’d flip Blackshear and Barrett. Kerry picked his team up when Robinson went down. When Zion went down, Barrett did not.

  4. Guy 1st team and Jerome 2nd team, that should be reversed. You take out Jerome for UVA and they will struggle. Granted Guy can shoot but he plays no defense where Jerome can also shoot, play defense and create his own shot!
Our Man Buzz was Definitely the ACC Coach of Year! Typical ACC media bias!

  5. I agree with the comments about Justin, but I find I’m more disappointed with Kerry on the 2nd team though I appreciate the talent ahead of him and I admit I’m a homey on that one. BUT I find a hard time understanding the distance between Buzz and Seth Macfarlane . . . err Tony Bennett. And only one point separation between Buzz and Roy Williams!?! No! Buss did a heck of a job after Justin went down. Buzz deserved more votes than he got. He should be closer to the Family Guy guy and farther away from Roy.

  6. Tony Bennett over Buzz? I think Bennett is a great coach and hiring him counters all of the bad coaching decisions Craig Littlepage made. But UVA won the ACC regular season and tournament last year, returned w/a full deck this year and was a favorite again this year. He deserves plaudits for his body of work to date. But did he merit more consideration than Buzz for what Buzz had to deal w/this year, what he got out of this team and his historic accomplishments, i.e., program-record ACC wins and program-tying wins? No.

    1. Would have w/o the injury. I only hope he can make it back before the season ends to show what might have been.

  7. 1-2 COY from the Commonwealth. Take that Tobacco Cartpath.

    Power shift heading north?

  8. Every time I hear about ‘Terance Man’ from FSU, I think about Field of Dreams
